I'm going.  Will be my first ride for quite some time.

Dunno about pics, but I'll see how I go.

Headed out to Beaufort on Saturday afternoon.  It was sunny, but cool.  On arrival, I found my crew had all already arrived and were all enjoying some afternoon bevvies in the sunshine.  I set-up my camp and soon joined them

After some beers and the usually banter, we took our bikes around to be 'impounded' in the 'park-ferme' and prepared to head to the pub for dinner.  Around 80 bikes were assembled, all the usual suspects, and a couple of oddities (like the '72 DKW)

After dinner, we went back to camp for one last drink, with slight flickers of lightning over the horizon.  Then, about 11:30, armageddon arrived!  LIGHTNING, THUNDER, HEAVY HEAVY RAIN and CYCLONIC WINDS lashed the camp, creating havoc that only the morning would reveal.

The morning was COLD and WET, but after an egg-and-bacon sanga and a cappacino,  we had a riders briefing and off for the cold start.  Our crew all fired-up and we were underway.

The course consisted of 4 sections.  The first was 42ks through the pine forest, with lots of slippery pine-needle infested tracks, plenty of steep sharp rises, and smaller versions of the 'hill-of-sticks' that we encountered in Holbrook.  We also had plenty of the 'follow-the-leader' type single trail stuff too, which made section one a real hoot!  Check-point and fuel-dump awaited us at the end, then it was off to section 2.

The next 3 sections were really all very similar, with a mixture of red clay, green clay, basalt rock, mud and puddles.  The rain had made the conditions somewhat treacherous, but the PE (and I) seemed to cope fairly well.  The rest of the guys were doing OK too.  Views from the top of some of the hills were great (when the sun came out), and for most of the time we had sunshine.  The final 3 sections were all around 30 ks each, making the total ride around 130ks.  As I mentioned earlier, my ride went well, until...... about 3 ks from the end, I put the PE into a 2 wheel slide and rode it down to the ground with both feet still on the pegs!  I got up, with no damage to me but on inspection of my bike, I had smashed the rear guard which is irreplaceable!  :(

Anyway, that aside it was a great event and I look forward to next year.

Thanks for the report Serge - I was disappointed that I had to miss out on this one, so it is good to see some details of the ride.

Young men on old bikes :)
Don't mess with old bikers, they don't just look crazy. :)

My first motor bike ride at the age 13, 58 years later I'm still riding.

Yes, I had fun.
Yes, Kurt was there.  We got drunk together (again).  And he loves the 200!  Was very impressed with the way you set it up.  You can see his ugly head in my 3rd pic (sitting in front of that green thing).
