Phil, I'm surprised your hearing is still as good as it is!

A question for you, does your steam club use black coal for some things?

I don't think Victoria mines black coal so it has to come from NSW, that would be the closest mine.

The reason I ask is Puffing Billy still uses black coal, they have a pile that I would guess at 100 tons and I was thinking that it must be very expensive that coal getting it down here just for Puffing Billy.

Do you know of anything else that would use black coal in Victoria?

I know you built a oil fired boiler for your steam club, one day on a weekend you'll have to take us on a special tour of the joint.

I'll start the list of those who want to be on the tour here.

Tim and others,
I was born deaf in mid range.  It has not changed. I dont hear well in group conversations.
The steam club does not use coal.  Except a bit of coke in the blacksmiths forge.  Our tractions engines are wood fired.
I dont know of any coal usage in Victoria.
Puffing Billy's coal comes from Qld.
I didn't build the oil fired boiler,  I modified it as necessary to burn waste sump oil.
If and when we get going again we have a run day on the last Sunday of the month.  Appointments not necessary. Our main open day is the long weekend in March.

Any other queries, please ask?.
Phil R.

Okay Ken on the list. We'll make this happen sometime next year.
We'll go there as a group and maybe head off for a feed afterwards.
The wheel is turning...

Phil,

Queensland for Puffing Billy's coal, that's a long way! I'll guess the Queensland coal has more energy than the NSW stuff.

So do you know where the coal would have come from when all the trains were coal fired in Victoria, Kurramburra?

I'm not sure you see the Youtube links Phil, try this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Dibnah

He was Steeplejack who had a keen interest in steam restoring quite a bit of it.

I had often wondered how they built and worked on those big chimneys, now I know.
