In a little over a month, Onion and I are going on another ride.  And this time we're taking company!

Our mate Bruce is having a mid-life crisis, so he bought a V-strom and said he's coming.  Willie also said he's coming (and he's a damn handy person to have around on a ride).  Geoff is also coming, cos this trip sounds like a good social event and Geoff likes a social event.  And we're taking Pete.....for entertainment!

The basic plan is the Birdsville Track.

Melbourne to Donald.  Donald to Renmark (a couple of easy days to get sorted and comfortable). Renmark to Yunta (via Dangalli National Park) and onto Wilpena (big day).  Wilpena to Farina (via Blinman for a pie) and our first o'night camp.  Farina to Maree, pick up 'the track' and onto Mungeranie for our second camp.  Then into Birdsville for two nights, including a sidetrack out to Big Red.  Then a big day out to Innaminka and two nights there, including a sidetrack to the Dig Tree and a poke into Queensland.  Then onto Cameron Corner, Tibobburra, Broken Hill, Silverton (Mad Max country),  Swan Hill and down to the Onion Patch at Caveat for our last night.

14 days and around 5000ks.

That'll do!

As long as you leave your wallet at home Serge you shouldn't have any problems!

May your tyres say inflated.

Don’t miss having a curried camel pie at the Birdsvile bakery - a great way to start the day!  You can get a very good meal at both the Birdsville and Innaminka pubs.

From Birdsville you can get to Innaminka via Betoota and then via Haddin Corner and Napa Merrie which takes you past the Dig Tree. I’ve taken this route with our Trakmaster van , on pretty good gravel tracks. The only dune I recall was on the track into Haddin Corner but we had no real problem with crossing with the van in tow. You can also go via Cordillo Downs, an abandoned sheep station with the largest sheering shed. I haven’t been this way as often this Cordillo Downs Road is closed due to flooding.

Yet another, shorter alternative is via Walkers Crossing which I have done with a group of Trakmasters, but is often closed due to flooding because you have to cross several clay pans that become a big problem with water!

From Maree you can take the Inside track up to Birdsville that gets you off the “highway” of the main Birdsville track. Again I have taken our van along this route without problem but it has recently been closed due to flooding.

Have a great trip.
