Whew! - I thought I was going to have to miss this for a while there.
I took the TT for a test run a couple of weeks back, and found that it wasn't down-shifting.
Was fun trying to get home when stuck in 5th gear, but luckily it wasn't far.
Removed the clutch casing, expecting to see something wrong with the shift selector, but found this
sitting under the arm of the shift shaft mechanism, effectively stopping the shifter from going downwards.
After getting some help to determine where it might have come from (4th gear output shaft was the
correct choice), I stripped down the engine and found the broken gear.
Unfortunately, the gear beside it (3rd) was also damaged, with rounded edges on the engagement areas
for the lugs on the 4th gear.
I managed to find a brand new 4th gear on fleabay, but after much searching, I couldn’t find a new 3rd gears
floating around in Australia.
I was worried that getting one from O/S would mean that it might not get here in time for the Vinduro…
Luckily, a kind soul on the XT Tenere forum had a good second hand one available, which arrived in the mail today.
Now I can start putting it back together and get the TT to Three Bridges.
