I needed a new focus in life!

I found I was coming home from work and sitting in front of the TV, with a glass of red in hand and my tablet on my lap, buying stuff (I don't need) on eBay and generally wasting time.  Since my accident, I haven't had much interest in riding mudder-boikes, but I still like them and want to play with them.  This all pointed to one thing...ANOTHER RESTO!

And I knew just the project to tackle.

Long story short, back in the days when Pete was interested in old bikes, he purchased a PE off a guy.  Part of the deal was that he took an un-restored DR200, along with the PE.  Pete didn't want the DR, but it was not up for debate, so he brought it home (well in fact, it went to Darren's place where it sat for a couple of years gathering more dust).  When Darren sold his house, the DR went to board at Pat's place for a further 18 months.  Then, during a conversation with Pat, I suggested it could come and live with me...and it did!

The bike is essentially all there however, it was missing the carbie and had no spark.  I wasn't prepared to take it on until I had located a replacement carb and verified that I could get it to spark.  So I procured a doner bike from Cootamundra and got a mate to collect it for me.  I was really only after the carb, so got him to post it down (with a few electrical bits).  When it arrived, I found it was not the correct carb , so bit of a waste of money, although some other bits may be useful.  So, another doner bike was sourced, this time with correct carb and this bike sparked, so whatever is wrong with the project bike can be sorted with the electrics of the doner.  With this all sorted, I set about and stripped it down to the frame and took it to my regular sand-blaster for treatment.  I hope to get it back later this week, and the project will commence.

A bit of history...

I purchased one of these beauties around 1998.  It was the first bike I actually bought.  It was a great beginners bike, low seat height, dozy 200cc 4-stroke 'power' plant, comfy seat and a decomp lever!  It was very easy to ride, very forgiving and as reliable as a hammer.

My first couple of HCRs and Nolan/Kenda rallies were done on it (back in the days when we used route sheets), along with a several over-nighters to places like Woods Point and Gaffneys Creek.

So the plan is to use it in Vinduros.  The cut off for these events is pre-88, and although this is an '89 model, it hasn't changed since its conception in '86, so it will squeak through on the follow-on rule.  As much as I love riding the widow-maker, it's very tiring for an old fella, especially on long events like Harrow.  So, with a front disc, full floater (mono-shock) rear suspension and a lazy 4-stroke engine, the DR should be a great weapon for some events on next years calendar.

Stay tuned for further updates and developments.
