Twas a 2 day meeting so lots of practice on Saturday. A few people started milling around and asking "what have you done to that DT1?" The DT1 was a joy to ride and those pesky race bikes just kept getting in the way.

I upset a bloke calle John Maher who had a sponsored Milledge Brothers ride. He complained I was upsetting his lap times by out braking him up the inside into the hairpin. Next time I saw him I out braked him around the outside, he was still upset. We became good trail riding buddies in later years.

The track would not be used these days. There was no run off any where. 25% was lined by the quarry rock wall. 10% was a concrete wall. The rest was a nice selection of gum trees and a bit of fencing. Exciting? - Oh Yeahhh.

So come Sunday morning and with a glut of butterflies I was on pole position for my first start.

You can see the air scoop for cooling the front brake in the photo. What you can't see is the green brake shoe linings, what a stopper for this light weight package, I was only 65kgs back then - honest :)

Up against a couple of Montjuics Kenny, that's a big ask from your DT1

Found another DT1 photo.

This was on a Monarchs MCC ride from Licola to Lake Tali Karng, back when you could. Our camping gear was carried out on the bikes Friday arvo for this weekend ride. We trail rode on Sat and a shorty on Sun morning before heading home with the camping gear back on the bikes. And the young uns think they have just invented "Adventure Riding" fair dinkum!

There were many river crossings to tackle and in our mostly road bike gear we were glad of a cool down and a drink. Camel backs were waiting to be invented. I don't recall any bikes being drowned which would have been interesting with the paper air filters.

Come on you guys, where are your Yamaha photos?

I was a Kawasaki and Can-Am guy until the early 80's - then I switched to Yamaha too.

This little beasty below caught my eye, and it served me well for many years (although it did tend to 'shred' gearboxes).

Was fitted with a 640cc Hi-comp piston kit, fairly radical cam, derestricted airbox, and free-flowing exhaust.
Those simple mods changed the' fairly' docile TT power delivery into something very different, and very enjoyable!

This photo is from a late 80's Eildon Navigation Rally I think...
