All men should have a yearly health check, they take some blood and a week later your Doc gives you the news.

All ailments are easier to fix/control when detected asap.

A brother in law of mine who lives on his own has just gone blind in one eye and the other is not far off. Because he never had any regular eye checks the glaucoma is way too far gone.

Pete - I'm no expert but I think your toe joints are just damaged and will take time to settle and eventually you will have arthritus in them and will not look forward to cold days, you getting old prick!
