I needed a new globe  for a roller door light today. The old one was a 24 volt/ 21 watt globe. My usual hardware store did not have any, neither did Bunnings so off I go to the local Autobahn to  hopefully get a  truck globe.
I asked the young store attendant where the 24 volt globes were and he pointed them out. I chose the globe I wanted then handed it to the young guy to put through the check out. He turns to me and seriously says, "this one will not work as it says on the packet it for an indicator so it probably will just flash". Pardon says I and he repeats what he said. I said I would just buy it and if it did not work I would bring it back.
Now, I know people have to start and learn somewhere but really, are some young people that stupid!

If you purchased a stoplight globe there would it only work once?
It's just more time to be flat out!

But why did you want an orange globe any way Robbo?

I would have gone with a stop/tail globe. Then it would be bright when the door was open, and not so when the door was shut!!

I did not think of that. I should take it back and get one of those. What bothers me was the guy was really serious telling me the globe would not work.

Just think Robbo.
When that poor bugger saves up and buys himself a flasher can? The sheer disappointed in his eyes when it don't work?
Or the packet of grease nipples?
Or wiper blades that do intermitant wiping?
Or fog light's that work during the day?
Or Driving lights that work when your not moving?
A long road a head for him Robbo. A very long road

Oh Al,

Where were you when I was growing up?  You could have solved some of my childhood issues!

You guys are spot on with your judgement of this kid, so rather than work for a living and try to make a life for himself and get ahead, and learn while on the job. He should chuck it in, get an ice addiction and rob and bash old people for money rather than annoy them with some innocent naivety,
Im sure he thought he was doing the right thing and helping you.
Ian, why didn't you talk to the young bloke in question and tell him where he went wrong so he learnt something and doesn't make the same mistake again?
I've said and done some stupid things in my time and learnt from them.
Going by all the previous posts none of you have, I wish I knew everything like you lot do.

I did try to explain to him it was just a globe and it needed something else to make it flash  but according to him because the packaging said indicator it was going to ash on its own. I was in a hurry so Ieft. I  do think it is good that he at least has a job and is not sitting around on the dole.
