I had a DR250 for many years.

Good, honest, reliable bike.  Simple to maintain, comfortable to ride and won't get you into trouble. And CHEAP!

The only 'problem' with them, is that they haven't changed in years (which, in fact is not a problem).

You could do a lot worse.

Not a bad choice, bit heavy . Like I said in the other thread anAJP PR4 is the go. Or if rec rego only is ok, a CRF230.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts everyone. The DRZ is definitely on the list of possibilities, particularly if full registration is important.

An issue about the AJP, at least to me, is dealer support. Japanese bike dealers are in every other regional town here in Victoria, so where is the AJP, SWM, Sherco etc dealer?

Anyway, I asked the regional Suzuki dealer I dealt with when I purchased my S40 about a changeover price for a new DRZ250, and I have to say it ain't advantageous to me right now. Second-hand might be better and then its a case of the deal rather than the bike.

I think might spend a little more time on the DT175 learning to go a little faster, and to be a little braver, and maybe see a year of riding with it while checking out what's being ridden by other AMTRA members, before jumping one way or the other. I forget who said that to me but it seems reasonable and prudent advice right now.

However, it doesn't hurt top ask,  'what if?' and,  'if only" from time to time.

also consider, if you can find a good one, a Dt200/Wr200.
